About DS3 and T3 Services
In the context of telecommunications, the terms T3 and DS3 are often used synonymously to describe a 45 mbps (megabytes per second) circuit. A T3 or DS3 is the equivalent of 28 T1s. People who work in telecommunications tend to use the term DS3 vs. T3. It is common, however, use the term DS3 when referring to the local loop or a local phone service and T3 when referring to a long distance service or point to point connection. Both DS3 and T3 are commonly used for: MPLS (multiprotocol label switching), Virtual Private Networks (VPN), and Dedicated Internet Access.
